DeVilbiss Enhanced Version of SmartCode with Adherence Score Can Satisfy New CPAP LCD Requirements without Additional Cost or Equipment

Somerset, PA – DeVilbiss Healthcare introduced its IntelliPAP® SmartCodeTM Remote Therapy Monitoring system with Adherence Score, which can help providers and clinicians satisfy Medicare Local Coverage Determination (LCD) requirements. This enhanced version of SmartCode is included free of charge on all IntelliPAP Standard and IntelliPAP AutoAdjust units.

 

The DeVilbiss SmartCode is an effective and efficient way to remotely monitor CPAP compliance data and obtain it with a simple phone call to the patient. The enhanced version of SmartCode is now included in both the DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust and IntelliPAP Standard without additional cost, fees or equipment.

 

One of the Medicare LCD requirements for reimbursement states that a patient must demonstrate clinical benefit of PAP by showing objective evidence of adherence to the use of the PAP device. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) states, “Adherence to therapy is defined as use of PAP ≥ 4 hours per night on 70% of nights during a consecutive thirty (30) day period anytime during the first three (3) months of initial usage.1”

 

The new Adherence Score featured in the enhanced version of SmartCode, objectively reports the percentage of the best consecutive 30 days of usage that meet the CPAP LCD requirements. The Adherence Score and SmartCode are unique to DeVilbiss and allow healthcare providers to quickly satisfy the Medicare LCD requirements for establishing CPAP compliance.

In addition, SmartCode uses a proprietary encryption method that allows summary therapy and device usage data to be compressed into onboard codes that are displayed on the IntelliPAP display panel. The IntelliPAP Standard CPAP generates two different SmartCodes. The first code is usage data

 

from the previous 1-, 7-, 30- and 90-days. This SmartCode includes percentage of days at least four hours use, day count, days of at least four hours of use, and average while breathing hours per day. The second code generated is SmartCode Usage, which provides cumulative data since the start of therapy, including percentage of days at least four hours use, day count, days of at least four hours of use, average hours per day and total while breathing hours.

 

Because more specific data is tracked with the IntelliPAP AutoAdjust, there are five different SmartCodes generated. The codes provide objective summary data for each 1-, 7-, 30- or 90-day usage. The data includes percentage of days of at least four hours of use, day count, days with at least four hours of use, and average while breathing hours per day. The fifth code generated is SmartCode Usage, described above.

 

The IntelliPAP AutoAdjust SmartCode also provides additional useful information for demonstrating an improvement in condition including: 90th and 95th percentile pressure, apnea/hypopnea index, pressure plateau time, high leak flow time, exhale puff and non-responding event index.

 

To decipher the SmartCode, the clinician or provider makes a call to the patient to acquire specific codes from the IntelliPAP. Once the clinician or provider has the desired code(s), they log onto www.IntelliPAP.com/SmartCode.

 

Once on this website the provider can enter various information pertinent to that patient including the SmartCode. The code is deciphered, and a report is generated that includes text and graphs. The reports can be printed or saved to the provider’s computer.
