SOMERSET, PA – May 28, 2013 – DeVilbiss Healthcare recently announced it will move production lines back to the United States from China, creating an estimated 20 to 25 full-time jobs at the corporate headquarters in Somerset, Pennsylvania as well as additional jobs at local suppliers.
“In an effort to enhance and accelerate the continuous improvement program for our production processes, the decision was made to move all production lines back to the United States,” said Ed Murphy, President & CEO of DeVilbiss Healthcare. “We expect this move to be completed by the end of September.”
Production lines for the DeVilbiss iFill® Portable Oxygen Filling Station have already returned to the United States, and DeVilbiss is currently in the process of moving several lines of compressor nebulizers and oxygen concentrators back as well.
Somerset Trust Company recently issued a $1.8 million term loan backed by a USDA business and industry loan guarantee for DeVilbiss Healthcare, which will help cover the costs of purchasing and installing the necessary manufacturing equipment.
“This show of support from a local lending institution and the USDA was instrumental in helping us bring badly needed jobs to this area,” Murphy added.
In 2007, the decision was made to move a number of DeVilbiss’ production lines to China in order to decrease production costs and remain competitive in the marketplace. Changing economic circumstances and improvements in product efficiencies now allow the company to bring these products back to the US at a competitive cost.
